However, he ultimately found his calling in writing. His debut novel, \"Aller sans Retour\" (Single Fare, No Return), was written while he resided in Geneva before moving to Paris. He became a prominent figure in the \"le Masque\" collection, a renowned series of French thrillers. Exbrayat\'s work also explored other settings, including Scotland (the \"Imogene\" series) and Italy.
