Pirro began his career in karting and progressed through the junior ranks, eventually reaching Formula 1 in 1989, where he raced with Benetton and Scuderia Italia.However, Pirro found his greatest success in sports car racing, particularly with Audi in endurance events. He became a five-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, achieving victories in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2006, and 2007.
